Hello December!! Ho ho ho!! What better way to get into the season spirit than talking about a depressing movie about a serial killer? Ok, ok. There are many other better ways to do so, but this is the movie I saw, so…
The movie in question is Chained, with Vincent D’Onofrio. Long story short, it’s a suspenseful movie about a cab driver (D’Onofrio) who happens to also be a serial killer, who one day kidnaps a mother (Julia Ormond) and her son (Evan Bird). The mother, he kills (not a spoiler, since it happens at the very beginning). But… what about the boy? That’s where the title comes into play.
This movie has superb acting. Vincent D’Onofrio is wonderful, as usual. He carries almost all the weight of the movie. All the actors are great; poor Rabit (the boy, played as a child by Evan Bird and as a teenager by Eamon Farren) is portrayed very, very well too.
As I said, this is a suspenseful and depressing movie; there’s nothing “cute” about it. It’s also very original; the story of a kidnapping from the point of view of the person who suffers it and also from the point of view of the perpetrator. Also, it shows how being evil is something that has to do with nurture more than nature.
If you’re into this kind of movies, by all means, check it out. It also has a clever twist that makes the end a lot more interesting…
Here’s the trailer:
